Mentez, a promoter and developer of Internet applications for social networks, has launched a competition to find the best Facebook applications written in South Africa. 

The Facebook community currently boasts about 50-million users.
The local competition is designed to promote the opportunities made possible by the Facebook platform's ability to integrate with user profiles and exploit the distribution infrastructure.
Mentez will reward the five most innovative Facebook applications from South Africa, with the winner eligible for a cash prize of R40 000.00. The second-placed runner-up will receive R6 000.00, while the third, fourth and fifth runners-up will get R3 000.00 each.
All the selected participants will sign an agreement with Mentez to improve their application, promote it within Facebook, protect their intellectual property, find financial resources if necessary, and monetise the application. Mentez will provide the infrastructure required to host the applications with the best-in-class security, availability and performance standards.
The application has to comply with the technical specifications established by There is no restriction on the type, use or format of the application participants develop.
Contestants need to register at before 22 December and submit a description of their application. Those selected from the preliminary round will then go on to develop the application before 31 January.
The complete applications will run on Facebook for six weeks and users will select the five most successful.
