McAfee complets SafeBoot acquisition

McAfee has completed the acquisition of all the outstanding capital stock of SafeBoot Holding for approximately $350-million in cash.
Through the acquisition, McAfee becomes a leader in the data protection market and the only vendor to deliver endpoint, network, Web, e-mail and data security, as well as risk and compliance solutions. McAfee now offers a complete security risk management solution to protect confidential data regardless of how the data is used, located, stored or accessed.

Gerhard Watzinger, the CEO of SafeBoot, will lead the newly-established Data Protection product business unit and will report directly to Dave DeWalt, chief executive officer and president of McAfee.
As organisations seek to protect their confidential financial data, customer information and intellectual property from leaving the organisation, they are increasingly looking for solutions that prevent unauthorised access to confidential data on all endpoints: PCs, laptops, tablet PCs, PDAs, and other mobile devices.
McAfee's policy-driven data protection solutions help customers secure their data in every possible way, whether it's data-at-rest, data-in-use or data-in-motion.
"Our goal is to provide customers with comprehensive data protection," says DeWalt. "The combination of SafeBoot's policy-driven encryption with McAfee's host and network data loss prevention solutions helps customers meet the complex challenges of protecting their confidential information, even on lost or stolen laptops and mobile devices. With the completion of this acquisition, McAfee becomes a leader in a multi-billion data protection market that is highly under-penetrated."
SafeBoot's policy-driven encryption technology, coupled with McAfee's Data Loss Prevention and ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO(TM)) management capability,
creates a compelling, industry-leading data protection solution. With over 100-million desktops under management and its worldwide distribution network, McAfee is well positioned to extend its leadership at the end-point. Encryption capabilities address all three of McAfee's segments-from the enterprise of one to the enterprise of thousands.
McAfee's policy-driven data protection solutions offer added visibility, control and enforcement for audit and compliance with privacy regulations and laws. Advanced compliance auditing and reporting will provide McAfee customers with the visibility needed to demonstrate regulatory compliance, ensure Safe Harbor protection and support prompt and proper investigations and audits.
McAfee will be able to provide an additional layer of protection from the risks of public disclosure, financial loss, brand damage, competitive disadvantage, lost customers and non-compliance.
McAfee plans to integrate SafeBoot technology into McAfee ePO, McAfee's centralised management console for enterprise customers. Users will be able to encrypt individual files and folders as well as the entire local hard drive for the widest possible range of devices, including PCs, laptops, smart phones, USB drives and PDAs. SafeBoot's mobile phone offerings will help advance McAfee's current mobile solutions by allowing McAfee to offer a new suite of integrated device protection and data security.
