Spectrum Multimedia has launched the Emtec MovieCube, a portable entertainment box with MPEG playback.

The MovieCube allows users to record TV programs much like the PVR decoder. It stores music, photos or videos that can be stored and taken anywhere and played on any TV set and hi-fi without the need for a PC or Mac.
It has a wide audio format compatibility, MP3, WMA, OGG and its video format compatibility covers MPEG, AVI, DIVX Universal picture format with JPG compatibility
Storage capacity is up to 500Gb allowing users to store up to 200 000 songs, 400 movies and 300 000 photos.
The MovieCube includes high-quality components such as the Hitachi hard drive disk. Upgradeable firmware allows the MovieCube to be compatible with all new video or audio formats.
The consumer can choose in between 10 languages on the TV menu. It operates under Windows 98SE/ME/2000/XP, Mac OS 9.0 Higher, Linux 2.4 Higher and USB Interface 480Mbps USB 2.0 (USB 1.1 compatible) / slave.
