Dubai International Capital (DIC), owned by the ruler of Dubai, has bought a stake in Sony. They size of the investment, or the stake acquired, has not been disclosed, although it has been described as "substantial".
Shareholders have reacted favourably to the deal, with shares rising 1,9% on the news.
Smaeer Al Ansari, CE of Dubai International Capital, says the investment in Sony is consistent with the organisation's mandate of supporting premier global companies.
"The combination of Sony's truly global brand, its leadership in product design and its global footprint will spur the business' medium term growth as it capitalises on positive underlying trends and emerging technologies."
