Dr Herb Chikwanda has been appointed as CEO of Powertech's newly-acquired subsidiary, Powertech IST. Dr Chikwanda was formerly MD of IST Energy and will assume his new position on 1 March 2008.

Dr Chikwanda will succeed Hannes Visagie, who was acting CEO of IST since the company was acquired by Powertech on 1 September 2007. At that time, Harry Coetzee, former CEO of IST, assumed the role of CEO at Aberdare Cables.
In the new round of appointments, Visagie will become group executive director of Powertech, responsible for the Group’s Integration Services.
“I am excited about taking up the challenge of maximising Powertech and IST’s synergies as we strive to create a leaner and more competitive organisation,” says Chikwanda.
“In benefiting from the economies of scale of a larger group, a healthy balance sheet and infrastructural support, it is our vision for 2008 and beyond to grow our order book and to enhance our cost-competitiveness, delivery and services synergy, thereby making us a formidable competitor in the infrastructure, building and construction sectors."
Prior to the seven years he spent as MD of IST Energy, Dr Chikwanda was director of business development at Engineering Management Services. He also held senior positions at Murray & Roberts Contractors, CSIR and GEC ALSTHOM Traction (UK).
