Facebook users are in the firing line again – this time falling prey to dodgy distribution tactics by adware developers.
Zango, which pays site owners to encourage users to download applications, is now being distributed on Facebook by being coupled with the Secret Crush Facebook application.
But, according to Allysa Myers, writing on her McAfee Avert Labs blog, this could be tip of the iceberg when it comes to Facebook's open application development platform.
"Facebook is quickly becoming full of apps that require you to send it to X number of friends before you can have their enticing toy," says Myers.
"This is, plain and simple, a sleazy social engineering tactic.
"These socially pransmitted apps are the Web 2.0 equivalent of chain letters and I want no part of it."
