Nortel has opened a training centre to provide Nortel enterprise product training covering data, voice and unified messaging.

“Four additional experienced staff have joined Nortel from TTS Grintek, which previously provided the training on behalf of Nortel,” says Nortel country manager Magda Engelbrecht.
“This underlines our commitment to the South African market and to providing high-quality training to our customers wherever they are located.”   The Nortel training centre will be relocated to the Nortel office in Sandton during the first quarter of 2008.
The training centre forms part of the EMEA region (Europe, Middle East and Africa) which includes 85 in-house professional staff and 50 instructors, with access to an additional 100 instructors.
EMEA covers the UK, Germany, Israel, France, Netherlands and Italy with three remote labs in the UK, France and Germany. There are also subsidiary centres in Milan, Madrid, Tel Aviv and Harlow.
In the past, the South African team has delivered training for Angola, Nigeria, Kenya, Botswana, Ghana, Mauritius and Namibia.
“The aim of the training centre is to reduce customers training costs, and assist customers in meeting aggressive schedules for new product deployments,” says Engelbrecht.
The aim is to also ensure that sales, administrative and management staff have the correct level of technical knowledge, and have cost-effective training options to meet their specific needs.
“This includes reducing the time spent away from the job for training, bringing the workforce up to speed on new products and solutions, training employees at different locations simultaneously and accessing training that is specific to individual job functions to develop skills,” says Engelbrecht.
