After being in the position for literally months, Microsoft SA's chief operating officer, Heather Third is moving on – promoted as the organisation's special projects director for Africa.

In her new role Third will be responsible for directing a number of key strategic projects across the continent geared towards bridging the digital divide and growing the local software economies in Africa.
“This new role is wonderful opportunity to drive strategic projects that will help Africa improve its global competitiveness, promote economic growth and improve technology access and skills development for people of all ages,” says Pfungwa Serima, MD of Microsoft SA. “Heather has spent nearly 10 years at the local subsidiary in various senior positions and is an accomplished professional who has overseen the growth of the local subsidiary and its partner ecosystem.
“Heather has been instrumental in the development and implementation of the subsidiary’s accelerated double digit growth plan, as well as overseeing numerous successful product launches over the years," Serima adds. "As the COO for Microsoft SA, her role focused on driving business and operational efficacy, and improving marketing effectiveness for the company. Her passion for technology and its ability to help people and companies realise their potential will stand her in good stead as she takes on this next chapter in her career.”
Third will take up her new position in April. At the time of going to press, there was no inidcation from Microsoft SA on who would replace her as COO of the local subsidiary.
