Cell C taken to task for ads

The Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has ordered Cell C to withdraw its "Woza Weekend" ads, following a complaint lodged by Vodacom which claimed the ads for free weekend minutes were misleading.

IOL Technology reports that Vodacom complained that the television ads did not draw sufficient attention to the terms and conditions under which Cell C subscribers could access free calls over weekends.
It claims that the conditions should be stated as part of the offer in an ad and that inserting the words "terms and conditions apply" wasn't sufficient.
In order to get 60 minutes of free talk time on weekends, Cell C subscribers need to recharge during the week; the offer is not available on certain packages; and only calls to other Cell C subscribers are free.
Call C has agreed to list the full terms and conditions on all print and Internet ads, as well as on the TV ad if it is flighted again.
