BCX to provide SARS

Business Connexion has been appointed the sole provider of managed network services to the South African Revenue Service (SARS) for a period of at least five years.

In May 2007 SARS announced the preliminary outcome of the tender process for the provision of ICT Infrastructure Services (RFT 06/2006). The tender was published in September 2006, and was subdivided into seven segments, or towers, each with a separately awardable element of the tender.
These towers were: Managed Network Services, Data Carrier Services, Voice Carrier Services, ISP Services, Workstation Services, Server Services and Workgroup Printing Services.
SARS received a total of 21 bids, from 10 separate companies. After an engagement with the bidders involved in the Best and Final Offer (BAFO) process for towers one to three, tower one, comprising managed network services, was awarded to Business Connexion.
The contract with Business Connexion will involve implementing an updated network, including LANs and WANs, and will include two possible one-year extensions.
According to Isaac Mophatlane, Business Connexion’s group executive: public sector and Pretoria Regional Office, the company’s bid was particularly compelling as a result of its highly skilled staff and a thorough understanding of SARS’ business requirements.
“We have been looking after the SARS’ voice environment for the last seven years and our network team’s ability has been recognized by both Cisco and Nortel Partner of the Year awards. We believe that it is our understanding of the client’s requirements and the professionalism of our team that allowed us to craft an appropriate solution for SARS, and to win this business,” he concludes.
