Vodacom has ended its win-a-BMW competition follwing a ruling from the National Lotteries Board.
The competition invited Vodacom users to enter via SMS – at a cost of R10.00 – to stand in line to win a BMW. There were 100 BMWs to be won over 100 days.
While Vodacom believes the competition was legal, the National Lotteries Board contends that it constituted a lottery, in that the SMSs were more expensive than normal.
However, Vodacom has stopped the competition, having held a draw last night to allocate the remaining BMWs to people who had entered.
