Neotel is almost ready to launch its long-awaited voice and data services to the consumer market.
Dr Angus Hay, chief technology officer at the second network operator, today told delegates to the Broadband Summit that services to consumers in JOhannesburg and Pretoria would be available "very soon".
Cape Town and Durban would follow shortly afterwards.
"On the consumer side, there is increasing desperation in the market," he says.
The first products in the company's consumer line-up will be access, voice and SMS bundles in high-speed and basic flavours.
They will run on Neotel's CDMA network, although it is also piloting WiMax.
Metro Ethernet services, as well as wireless and wireline broadband are planned for later in the year.
