Vodacom has been accused of misleading the Competition Commission.
According to Business Report, the tribunal says the cellular operator lied about its rationale for buying accessories vendor Global Telematics South Africa (GTSA).
GTSA has a Vodacom SP licence to sell airime vouchers, accessories and cellular contracts.
This licence is due to expire at the end of the month.
David Lewis, chairman of the tribunal, has questioned why Vodacom wishes to buy the company for R206-million if it could effectively take over its customer base for nothing once the licence expires.
He has implied that the rationale behind the acquisition is rather to remove a competitor, known for offering discounts, from the market.
