Ingram Micro gets Samsung

The latest in a flurry of distribution moves sees Ingram Micro SA adding the Samsung IT product range to the component portfolio it provides to local system builders and the OEM channel. The deal includes Samsung optical disk drives, and hard disk drives.

According to John David, head of product marketing at Ingram Micro SA, the new products complement the existing offerings in the stable.
"As the Samsung appointment shows, we are attracting the top brands in the market. Samsung is synonymous with quality and value for money. As such, it has become one of the preferred brands in the market when it comes to LCDs, DVD drives, and hard disks," he says.
For Samsung, it was a logical choice to go with Ingram Micro SA.
"Ingram Micro is the biggest distributor in the world. In South Africa, they have a proven and successful back-end with MB Technologies," says Dennis Brett, business manager of IT products at Samsung Electronics SA.
"For Samsung, to get the component business into Ingram Micro is a great win. With the Ingram Micro name as distributor and their excellent go-to market strategy on our side, we are confident about our prospects in the country," says Brett.
Samsung Electronics already has existing relationships with other distributors in the MB Technologies group and decided to stay with them and use Ingram Micro South Africa as its dedicated component distributor.
"Both companies have superior brand equity and I believe this will be a great partnership for both," Brett concludes.
