Bug warfare gets sophisticated

Bugs are set to become a lot more sinister: a UK-based company is creating a family of miniature robots designed to look like insects and spiders which can infiltrate enemy territory and send back information from the field.

BAE Systems is said to be close to completing a spider-shaped robot which could be ready for battle as early as this year. Other designs on the drawing board include dragonflies, snakes and butterflies.
The intelligence-gathering robots are designed to go to places inaccessible or dangerous for humans.
Some would carry cameras and others sensors to detect chemical, biological or nuclear weapons.
They would be released by a human "handler" outside the area to be scouted and "report back:" to him via a portable or wearable computer.
