Orion takes on data solutions market

Orion Telecom, a Vox Telecom company, has launched Orion Data Solutions to take advantage of opportunities within the converging voice and data environment. 

Orion Telecom is actively targeting its existing client base, and will also be focusing on government and private organisations that require competitively priced enterprise level data services and solutions.
On offer to customers is a range of data services that include Internet connectivity, redundancy options via wireless access links, converged Internet protocol (IP) services and various secure hosting solutions.
Orion Data Solutions is built on the fully redundant Vox Telecom backbone, which also services first-tier Internet service providers DataPro and @lantic.
“This enables Orion Telecom to provide premium quality, fully customised solutions for clients,” says James Smith, sales director at Orion Telecom. “The move continues our evolution from a least cost routing pioneer to a provider of comprehensive voice and data solutions for the corporate market.”
The backbone, with local nodes between the major South African centres and an international node in the UK, makes it possible for Orion Telecom to provide Internet services nationwide.
DataPro, is also the only ISP in the country that has interconnect agreements with the four major players, enabling it to leverage off the other ISPs if its backbone ever goes down, a level of stability that no other provider can offer.
Smith says Orion Telecom has always distinguished its offering by the level of service that is provided to corporate clients. In keeping with this, data solutions customers will have telephonic and e-mail access to Orion Telecom’s central helpdesk.
“The helpdesk is peopled by highly skilled technicians who are able to solve 90% of problems immediately,” he notes. “Technicians are sent out to address problems that cannot be resolved by first-level support staff.”
Existing voice clients who contract with Orion Telecom for their data requirements will also benefit from having one service provider, merged product offerings, which significantly increase customer value, one account manager and unified monthly billing.
“Another advantage for customers is that the Vox Telecom Group is one of Telkom’s largest customers,” adds Smith. “This means that fault resolution is extremely quick.”
