Acer South Africa has announced the availability of two new models in the Acer Aspire range of desktops. The entry-level Acer Aspire M1640 is an affordable PC for home users who need a reliable desktop that offers good multimedia performance, while the Acer Aspire M5640 is designed as a high-performance entertainment PC for the digital home.
The Acer Aspire M5640 is a powerful entertainment PC that features an Intel Core 2 Quad processor as well as the integrated Nvidia GeForce 7100 graphics card and nForce 630i chipset for superior multimedia display quality.
This new PC is designed to be the centrepiece of the digital home and includes media features such as an HDMI port, a multi-in-one card reader, eight USB 2.0 ports and 7.1 channel audio support. The HDMI port transmits a clean, digital video signal to modern LCD monitors or HDTVs.
The Acer Aspire M5640's Intel Core 2 Quad processor delivers blazing performance for even the most demanding home entertainment and multi-threaded applications, including high-definition movies and gaming.
Michel Darebny, product manager for desktops and servers at Acer South Africa, says: "The Aspire M5640 features up to 4GB of DDR2 800 MHz memory with single-channel support on two DIMMs so that it can easily handle the memory requirements of all multimedia and productivity applications."
Featuring a large Serial ATA 3Gbps hard disk drive with up to 500GB of storage space, the Aspire 5640 offers plenty of room to store multimedia files as well as rapid data access and retrieval speeds.
The Acer Aspire M5640's glossy, all-black case has a semi-translucent cover that elegantly hides other ports. With the PC's smooth façade and refined image, this product looks right at home alongside one's entertainment centre in the lounge.
"The Acer Aspire M1640, meanwhile, is a capable workhorse computer for the home that is designed for everyday use. This affordably priced PC is ideal for children's school projects, email, web access, multimedia applications, as well as productivity applications such as word processing," adds Darebny.
Outfitted with an Intel Core 2 Duo processor and an integrated Nvidia GeForce 7 Series graphics solution, the Acer Aspire M1640 is designed to answer day-to-day multimedia needs. The machine features up to 2GB of DDR2 667 MHz SDRAM as well as a large Serial ATA hard disk of up to 320GB. The six USB 2.0 ports (two in front, four in the rear) and a multi-in-one card reader support the latest media formats, allowing users to bring their multimedia devices together with ease. The Acer Aspire M1640 also includes a sturdy, dust-resistant, textured chassis design that allows for easy upgrade and lends a refined look to the desktop.
Both models come bundled with Acer Empowering Technology, a smart suite of utilities designed to make common tasks and system configuration simple.
"Equipped with the latest multimedia technologies, communication essentials, and performance innovations, the Acer Aspire range offers the performance home users need for their latest productivity and entertainment applications. Acer's design philosophy focuses on ease of use, aesthetics and ergonomics as much as performance, meaning Aspire PCs are enjoyable to use and look good in the study or lounge." concludes Darebny.
The Acer Aspire M1640 and the Acer Aspire M5640 start at a retail price of R3 999.00 and R5 999.00 respectively, including VAT.
