UCSSM secures R40m development deal

Outsource software developer UCS Software Manufacturing (UCSSM), has secured a R40-million deal – spread over two years – to provide ongoing development services for retail-based software for newly-created software distribution company Argility.

Argility was recently unbundled from UCSSM’s JSE-listed parent company, UCS Group. Launched officially on 1 October this year, Argility is to distribute South African-developed software products, including the ActiveRetail and DolFin software product suites.
Argility was set up to focus on creating a dealer channel focused on winning local and international sales for the retail software originally developed by the group’s software factory, UCSSM.
Lester Aderem, MD of Argility, says : “We are delighted to have concluded an exclusive outsourced product development agreement with UCSSM. This will enable us to focus on driving the product roadmap for our product suite – and to build our dealer channel. We have already appointed four channel partners in the UK, and will be looking at appointing more partners in South Africa – as well as in the US.
“We will also be focusing on executing the development of our Product Roadmap, which will not just be confined to the ActiveRetail and DolFin software suites.
"While these will be developed further, we will, over time, be adding other product sets to our offerings. We are comfortable that UCSSM will deliver a high quality service as they have mature development processes which have CMMI accreditation.
"In addition, they have been involved historically with the development of the product suite.”
