Business Connexion will implement a new human resources (HR) management information system for the eThekwini Municipality in Durban.

The Dynamic Resource Link (DRL) system will replace the existing Unique Payroll system.
Some of the functions that the new system will handle for the Greater Durban Municipality are: HR, payroll, recruitment and Web recruitment, expenses and web expenses, training and administration, employee self service, manager self service, work processing and personal development.
Navin Radhalal, regional executive public sector for Business Connexion in KZN, says: "eThekwini Municipality awarded the contract on the basis of its functionality, ease of implementation, flexibility, fully integrated modules and web portal interface.
"Employees today have become very technology savvy through the use of cellular phone technologies, and we believe the key is to have a self-service system where employees and employers can access their HR data via a web portal. This will enable an employee to look up a past pay slip and print it out, to check leave due and even apply for leave online. Staff will also be able to print out their own IRP5s.
"Installation will start in July 2008 with certain modules and departments up and running within 18 months. It will take up to three years for all modules to be fully implemented."
SMME's from the SmartXchange in Durban will assist with the implementation of certain aspects of the contract. This results from an initiative the Business connexion began about a year ago to engage SMMEs.2407bcx
