Obama uses e-mail subscription for historic annoucement

US presidential hopeful Barack Obama is using the Internet in a number of innovative ways, including campaign funding. Now he's seeking to increase his database of supporters by inviting people to subscribe to an e-mail service to find out who his vice-presidential running mate will be.

An e-mail has gone out to his existing registered supports, with the subject line "Be the first to know".
The mail goes on to invite people to subscribe to the e-mail notification service.
It reads: ""Barack Obama is about to make one of the most important decisions of this campaign – choosing a running mate.
"You have helped build this movement from the bottom up, and Barack wants you to be the first to know his choice."
