Asus has launched what it calls one of the most highly mobile computing devices on the South African market – the second-generation, handbag-sized Asus EeePC.

Small, chic, funky and highly affordable, the Asus EeePC (Easy to Learn, Easy to Work, Easy to Play) is powered by Microsoft’s Windows XP platform,.
“Within the Eee PC, a full range of applications is designed to enhance the user's communication and computing experience,” says Asus’s William Tsai. “The Eee PC enables users to easily function in any connected environment. From the outdoors to the shopping centre, users will be able to enjoy fast and complete connectivity.”
The Eee PC offers a 20Gb Internet storage facility that allows 5Gb worth of downloads per day. So whether users want to share images with their friends and family, or store big business presentations, they can now access their data with ease and not worry about space constraints.
Colin Erasmus, Windows client executive at Microsoft SA, says that although the Eee PC will be seen by many as a lifestyle device, it is an important part of the company’s initiatives to make computer technology available to people who have not previously been able to afford it.
“Having Windows XP Home as its operating system means the Eee PC provides a familiar platform that will work with a wide range of applications and devices, including mobile devices,” says Erasmus.
Equipped with built-in SSD (Solid State Drive) technology, the Eee PC bills itself as the ideal mobile travel computing companion. The latest generation of Eee PC consumes less power, allows the device to boot quickly, produces less heat and is less susceptible to shock damage.
Together with the Asus exclusive Super Hybrid Engine, users can now enjoy a longer battery lifespan of up to 7,8 hours, allowing them to stay in touch and be connected for a longer period of time while on-the-go. Super Hybrid Engine also offers a choice of performance and power consumption modes for easy adjustments according to their varied needs.
The Eee Connect application offers a straightforward and easy way to connect two or more users remotely through a remote desktop feature for easy troubleshooting. What's more, the Windows operating system makes computing life more convenient for an easy, excellent and exciting user experience.
For a more complete multimedia experience, users can look forward to the addition of the Eee Stick – a brand new wireless gaming accessory that provides users with new gaming experience without the hassles of wires and cables. Eee Stick provides users with a whole new level of interactivity with the game and with the Eee PC.
Users can also choose their preferred Eee PC personality. The new Eee PCs now come in six custom styles. The motifs are an integral part of the cover and will not fade with time. Users can choose from a range of colours: Sakura, Sweet Pea, Urban Metropolis, White Peony, Pearl White and Fine Ebony.
The new Eee PC also marks the world premiere of the Intel Atom processor – Intel's smallest processor built with the world's smallest transistors.
