One of South Africa's biggest IT companies, Mustek, has branched out to the Middle East and north African regions with the formation of Mustek Middle East, which will be based in Dubai.

The new company will initially focus on its Tier One Electronics division's range of products. Targeting motor manufacturers and importers, the company aims to provide the regional market with access to world-class vehicle audio, video and multimedia equipment. Major US brands Audiovox, Rosen and Boss Audio – which the company has sole distribution rights to in southern Africa – will be represented by Mustek Middle East in the region.
The new company will be headed up by Richard Gouverneur, GM of Tier One Electronics, who says: “This region is booming, with multi-billion dollar investments and the migration of companies and people to the region. In contrast to the negative business sentiment being experienced in the local motor industry, the Middle East region continues to show significant growth, with passenger vehicles sales in the UAE delivering growth of more than 37% over 2007.”
Tier One Electronics is considered a premier distributor of mobile video and multimedia solutions to the South African market and provides a wide range of portable and installed custom-designed DVD and navigation systems to a number of local and international motor manufacturers and importers. These include Ford, General Motors, Jaguar, Land Rover, Hyundai, KIA, Mahindra and Toyota.
