Just one week after Altech Autopage won its landmark court victory allowing it to build its own telecommunications network, the Independent Communications Authority of SA (ICASA) has announced that it won't appeal the decision, and has started handing out licences.

According to a report in Business Day, the regulator has already begun issuing licences that will allow VANS (value added network services) providers to build their own networks.
Although there are only 27 licences available now, about 300 companies could qualify for them.
