iPhone debuts in SA

Today's the day … the iPhone 3G is available for South African users – and already 30 000 of the devices have been reserved by enthusiasts.

Today, the phone is on sale at Vodaworld, Midrand, but will soon be a feature all participating Vodacom outlets around the country. It will be made available to both pre-paid and contract users.
The iPhone 3G is the latest version of the popular iPhone and includes 3G networking, built-in GPS for expanded location-based mobile services and iPhone 2.0 software which runs the thousands of third party applications available through the Apple App Store. It also includes support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
Depending on the choice of package, iPhone 3G will be available to contract customers for R1 799.00 for the 8Gb model; or from R2 899.00 for the 16Gb model.
Prepaid customers can buy the the 8Gb iPhone 3G for a cash price of R6 389.00 and a 16Gb iPhone 3G for a cash price of R7 569.00.
An initial 30 000 iPhones have been brought into the country.
