SterKinekor Entertainment releases 100th Blu-ray title

SterKinekor Entertainment is celebrating the release of the 100th Blu-ray Sony Pictures title with Made of Honor-, a romantic-comedy featuring Patrick Dempsey and Michelle Monaghan.

Blu-ray has since March last year continued to gain important momentum; it is estimated that 11 000 Blu-ray Disc players and 70 000 Sony PlayStation 3 gaming consoles will be sold by December this year.
The October milestone also coincides with the release of the 80GB and limited edition 160GB Sony Playstation consoles which will offer consumers even more storage capacity and functionality.
Significantly, due to the continued price erosion and educational drives Blu-ray is no longer limited to high-end early adopters and audiophiles.
"There is undoubtedly a shift in the LSM market; we are finding that LSM 5 – 7 consumers are buying Blu-ray players and titles," comments Nelmari Claassens, Sony Pictures marketing Mmanager at SterKinekor Entertainment.
Claassens adds that the introduction of DSTVs High-Definition (HD) channel and the accessibility of HD TVs are contributing to the uptake of Blu-ray.  Furthermore, with the switchover from analogue to digital terrestrial television (DTT) by 2010, the format will continue to strengthen its role in South African households.
"Key to Blu-ray's adoption has been the combined effort by industry in general. Together with other players such as NuMetro we have endeavoured to educate the market on the format's benefits.  We are all working towards the same goal and it shows," adds Claassens.
Blu-ray titles are generally accessible as SterKinekor Entertainment ensures that with each title release it is also available to certain rental franchisees who choose to support the format and are buying into SterKinekor Entertainment's drive.
Since winning the format war in 2007, Blu-ray has enjoyed a number of important developments such as Picture in Picture (PiP) functionality and BD-Live which combines the functionality of Blu-ray players with accessibility to online content. BD-Live is perpetually being enhanced and not only features interactive games with friends, family or other gaming enthusiasts but offers a complete home theatre movie experience.
