The new Billion 7402NX Dual-WAN 3G/ADSL2+ VPN firewall router now brings the benefits of the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi draft 2.0- improved speed and coverage to South African users.
With the integrated 802.11n Wireless Access Point, the router delivers up to six times the speed and three times the wireless coverage of an 802.11b/g network device. It supports a data rate of up to 300Mbps and is also compatible with 802.11b/g equipment. The 7402NX also features a 4 Gigabit port switch.
Optimising continuous connectivity, the router includes a USB port for plugging a 3G/HSDPA modem which works as a backup WAN functioning as an automatic fail-over when an ADSL2+ connection breaks down, and automatic fail-back when the ADSL2+ connection is restored
"The device essentially connects over an ADSL2+ or 3G network to deliver uninterrupted connectivity. Plus, in the case of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs) the connection will also be re-established, which is undoubtedly an important benefit. The 7402NX is the fifth product in the Billion router series to feature automatic fail-over which is indicative of the company's commitment to stable connectivity, particularly in today's business environment," comments Pierre Holtzhausen, channel manager at Nology.
In addition to the advancements that come with the draft 2.0 802.11n standard, the 7402NX features three antennas, which effectively search for wireless signals and automatically adjust to the optimal connection after obstacles have been detected; mitigating the possibility of dead zones. Furthermore, the three antennas allow for multiple user environments – an individualised connection is established for each user which in turn improves individual communications.
As the router also connects via 3G, users can create their own mobile hotspot for Wi-Fi access. Plus, with the integrated 4-port Gigabit Switch, users can enable fast LAN transmission by connecting it to, for example, Airlive's SNMP-FSH2602MG switch thus creating a Gigabit LAN backbone which is ideal for bandwidth-consuming applications such as video streaming and file sharing.
The router includes advanced security features such as Wireless Protected Access (WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK) and Wireless Encryption Protocol (WEP) which enhance the level of transmission security and access control over Wireless LAN.
It also supports the Wi-Fi Protected Setup (WPS) standard that allows users to establish a secure wireless network by simply pressing the button. Additionally, if the network requires wider coverage, the built-in Wireless Distribution System (WDS) repeater extends the wireless network without the need for any external wires or cables.
The integrated IPSec VPN function allows users to encrypt connections of up to 16 VPN tunnels to securely transmit data over the Internet. It also supports multiple PPTP and L2TP VPN tunnels for both client as well as server set-ups.
Additional 7402NX features include:
* Soho firewall security with DoS prevention and SPI;
* Quality of Service control; and
* Syslog monitoring.
