Planet Fitness has selected Itec North to upgrade its office automation equipment, streamline its telecommunications system, and install generators at its 11 branches in Gauteng and the Western Cape. The result is a single service level agreement that has given the group one point of contact across three critical business areas.

"Our relationship with Itec North began several years ago when the company provided us with copiers," says David Carney, group procurement manager at Planet Fitness. "Over time, the ongoing exceptional service we have received has resulted in a strategic partnership between our two companies. We receive at least three calls a week from office automation suppliers, but we would never move our business."
The health club group bought a total of 30 multifunctional devices, each consolidating printer, copier, scanner and fax requirements into one machine. In addition, Planet Fitness has replaced its previous telecommunications system at each branch with PABXs supplied by Itec North.
"We had a range of telephony solutions in place, as a result of which we lacked consistency and experienced difficulties in dealing with any problems that arose," says Carney. "Because we had already received good service, we decided to go with Itec's PABX solution. As business and technology become more and more complex, selecting the correct communications strategy and tools for your business is crucial."
Carney says the group has been able to drive down its telephony costs following the PABX rollout, minimising the actual costs of operation. In addition, it has gained the ability to take advantage of voice over Internet protocol (VoIP) into the future as the group expands across the country.
"There are many benefits to be had from standardising on one system," says Carney. "It eases integration across the group, gives us tools to control costs, enables proper telephony management and, because we are making use of sophisticated technology, we have longevity."
Planet Fitness also contracted Itec to provide generators at each health club to ensure that they are able to continue operating in the event of a blackout.
Carney says the group took advantage of Itec Finance, which provides rental finance solutions that are structured to suit clients' unique requirements.
"As a result, the risk of equipment obsolescence and depreciation is carried by Itec Finance, we are able to upgrade at any time, and our rental payments are fully tax deductible. Itec has been with us throughout the growth of the business, and the company has always been happy to share risk with us."
Gavin Meyer, executive director at Itec North, says the strength of the partnership between the two companies is key.
