Vodacom has introduced Short Voice Service (SVS) – a voice-based message service that enables Vodacom customers to send a 30-second voice message to any other Vodacom customer's cellphone without having to talk to them.
To use SVS, users dial the # digit followed by the number of the recipient and leave the SVS – a warning beep will sound 25 seconds into the recording to warn the speaker that the 30 second limit has almost been reached. There is no need to subscribe or to be provisioned to utilise SVS.
The recipient receives an alert by means of an SMS to dial #99 to retrieve their SVS, free of charge.
Vodacom SVS is available to all Vodacom customers, including contract, prepaid and top-up customers.
The SVS service will be free of charge until 9 November 2008, with normal billing to commence on 10 November 2008, when they will be 90 cents per SVS.
