In line with its strategy of becoming a "true" telecoms player, South Africa’s leading ISP MWeb has strengthened its partnership with Holland-based Instant Messaging (IM) organisation Nimbuzz.

MWeb says the partnership will enhance its strategy in the region, allowing it to offer a full range of value-added, combined communications and multimedia services over fixed-line, cellphone, wireless and satellite Internet platforms.
“The plan is to use Nimbuzz in building service offerings, based on Presence Detection, which will soon grow to offer cheap international calling from your cell phone," says Natalie Thayer, GM of MWeb. "Nimbuzz is integrated with MWeb message centre and is now available on PCs and on mobile phones."
MWeb has taken the unique approach of incorporating the IM aggregator into its popular Message Centre upgrade which is currently available to all MWeb subscribers.
Says Nimbuzz CEO Evert-Jaap Lugt: “Strategic distribution deals are key for us to bring our presence, VOIP and IM communication tools to existing networks and communities. For us this deal is further evidence of these types of communication becoming the norm for mobile users.”
