Tarsus Technologies was last night named as Hewlett-Packard SA's top distributor at the company's annual partner awards, while Aptronics CEO Appie Pema was named as its Outstanding Channel Executive.
The renaming of the annual awards from Preferred Partner Awards to Golden Circle Awards led to the obvious analogies around wedding rings and marriages by HP executives addressing assembled partners at a specially revamped Investment Cars in Bryanston.
And, with recession looming, there were subtle warnings in the comparisons.
"This partnership between us is like a marriage," says newly-appointed MD of HP SA, Oliver Fortuin. "But it is not a marriage of convenience. We're not going to tell you one story tonight and a different one tomorrow.
"Like every marriage, there will be problems and I think there are going to be some of 'those discussions'," Fortuin says. "But as long as we are transparent [with each other] I think we will do okay.
"The thing that will see us through is that we're committed to everyone in this room. I'm personally committed to every one of you."
