In its final Patch Tuesday of the year on 9 December, Microsoft will issue eight security updates, bringing the total number of patches issued by the software company for the year to 77 – slightly more than the 69 it issued last year.

Six of Tuesday's updates are listed as "critical" and there are two for Windows, two for Office and four for Internet Explorer, Sharepoint, Windows Media Player, and Visual Basic and Visual Studio.
The most patches Microsoft has issued in any given year was 100, back in 2000.
