Global news channel the Naked News has launched in South Africa today (15 December). Initially available via mobile and online broadcast, the subscription-based service delivers typical current affairs broadcasts with presenters simultaneously shedding their clothing.

This year, the channel celebrates a decade of news-casting since its Canadian debut and is now available in 18 territories worldwide.
Initially broadcasts will be directly fed from the channel's Canadian newsroom, says local entrepreneur David Ringwood who has acquired the licence. But, he says, castings for South African reporters will commence early in the New Year at various locations in the country.
"It is a totally unique concept, marrying a typical news day roundup with sensuality." Ringwood says that programming will feature current affairs, sport and entertainment, packaged in daily roundups.
"Technology has made it possible for South Africans to be exposed to premium international content," he says. "And, as global connectivity increases, we will see increased global content becoming available locally, at affordable prices. The expected increases in bandwidth during the next few years also promises to deliver better and faster access."
