The Competition Tribunal could be considering legal action against Altech CEO Craig Venter, following a report in Sunday's Business Times.

According to Business Day, tribunal chairman David Lewis has instructed his attorneys to demand a retraction from Venter.
In addition, reports the newspaper, the tribunal will consider the matter to decide whether to sue Venter. According to the Competition Act, it is an offence to defame the tribunal or its members.
The interview on Sunday referred to Altech's objections to MTN's R1,4-billion purchase of Verizon, which it withdrew shortly before the tribunal held hearings about the acquisition.
In the Business Times article, Venter called the presence on the adjudicating committee of an ex-MTN employee, Yasmin Carrim, "unfortunate".
Venter's attorneys have apparently already responded by retracting the word "unfortunate" and clarifying that no defamation of Carrim was intended.
