The man accused of using spyware to defraud government departments in KwaZulu-Natal has escaped from prison.
According to news reports, Sipho Msomi – believed to be part of a syndicate that defrauded five KZN departments – escaped from prison while awaiting trial.
Charges against him have been provisionally withdrawn.
He was facing 93 counts of fraud for allegedly installing spyware in government computers. It is thought the fraud netted R20-million.
