Ericsson South Africa confirms the death on Sunday, 8 March 2009 of Jan Embro, who was president at Ericsson's market unit sub-Saharan Africa.
A statement from the company reads: "The news of the sudden death of Jan Embro has shocked Ericsson South Africa and the sub-Saharan region that he was responsible for. Words of condolence have been pouring in from partners and customers across the globe.
"Ericsson sub-Saharan Africa's management team have immediately put in place a plan to ensure that, although everyone at Ericsson will be affected by this event, the focus still remains on the customers.
"Much praise is to be found for Jan from every corner of the sub-Saharan market unit since he took over as president in 2001. Under his leadership the market unit has grown its market share, its customer base, its product and solutions portfolio and staff compliment. Jan has been responsible for driving the company's vision to be a prime driver in an all communicating world across the region and has always kept close contact with both his customers and his partners.
"While with us, Jan would have been modest but there is no doubt that we will hear more praise for him over the next couple of days and weeks.
"Our sympathies and condolences are with his wife and four daughters at this time."
