EMC is aggressively targeting the growing emerging markets in Africa, and has set up an East African hub with more new offices to follow this year.
Gerhard van der Merwe, regional country manager for South Africa, South, Central and East Africa at EMC, says the company has recently opened a new office in Kenya that will act as a hub for East Africa.
In addition, EMC plans to open an office in Angola, while representatives from the South African operation will continue to service customers in other parts of the South, Centra and East African region.
The local operation looks after a territory that includes 22 seperate countries and is enjoys continued growth despite the economic downturn, says Van der Merwe. It currently employs 185 people, up from 103 last year.
