The Idols reality show seems to be coming in for more than its fair share of blows around the world. Following the SMS debacle in South Africa, American Idol has also come under the spotlight, with AT&T accused of influencing the outcome.
An article in the New York Times say AT&T provided phones and free text messaging services, along with lessons in how to cast blocks of votes, at parties organised by Kris Allen fans. Allen went on to win the show.
However, it is said there were no similar services to fans of Adam Lambert, who ended up coming second.
AT&T is one of the biggest corporate sponsors of the show, and is the only mobile phone network that can be used to cast votes for American Idol.
