@lanticis offering users countrywide a free high-quality VoIP phone with ADSL installations.
The ISP began bundling a free VoIP phone worth R2 000.00 on ADSL deals earlier this year, charging only R326.00 for a 512kbps line, or R413.00 for 4Mbps. Customers have the option of self-installing or paying a reseller a once-off installation fee of R350.00.
Dederick Venter, MD of @lantic, says the company can barely keep up with demand. ""We expected to sell around 500 by mid-year, but have already achieved this by April. We think it is a unique offer; we certainly don't see it being marketed anywhere else."
Calls are free between @lantic subscribers and cost up to 30% less to other numbers, making the service a winner all by itself. But besides that, @lantic has the advantage of offering true local service, with a footprint rivalling that of the telcos. The company makes use of a cost-effective franchise model that enables it to expand rapidly into new areas without prohibitive capex costs.
In addition, its burgeoning size (it recently acquired Absa Internet's subscriber base as well as those of some regional ISPs) translates to an increasingly cost-competitive offering, as the company's buying power begins to rival other national groups'.
Venter adds that the ISP's good integration with Telkom's DSL installation department further gives it an edge over competitors.
According to Venter the offer will strengthen @lantic's position in the ADSL sphere, where it is already a strong player.
