HP confirms that it has submitted a proposed restructuring plan for its Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) region to its European Works Council (EWC), providing details on the regional impact of the company's ongoing global business transformation.
Under the proposal, the company's planned workforce reduction in EMEA will affect up to about 5 700 positions over the next two years. On 30 April 2009, HP (including EDS) had about 80 000 employees in EMEA.
The break-down of affected positions in businesses and functions on country level will be evaluated during the coming weeks.
In addition, as part of HP's ongoing efforts to optimise the company's operations and cost structure, as well as to drive increased value for customers, HP has presented a plan to relocate its EMEA Enterprise, Storage and Servers (ESS) production from Germany and Scotland to a partner company in the Czech Republic during 2010.
In keeping with governing local law and established practice, HP will consult with employee representatives in the countries affected by the proposal on the conditions for the implementation of the restructuring measures. These local consultations are expected to start in the second half of June 2009.
