Even as MTN comes under fire for its SMS competition, Cell C is extending a promotion that will pay out R7m in cash.

The mobile network operator has announced that, due to the success of its Woza Wheneva campaign, it has extended the promotion for another two months. As part of the promotion, Cell C is also offering R7-million in cash prizes to its prepaid subscribers.
Simon Camerer, Cell C's executive head of marketing, says the Woza Wheneva promotion, which ran from March to June 2009, was so well received that Cell
C made the decision to extend the campaign for another two months.
"This means that for every R1.00 you recharge, you receive two extra free minutes, starting with a minimum recharge of R10.00," says Camerer.
To boost the campaign and add value for its subscribers, Cell C will run a competition on six radio stations – Metro FM, Ukhozi FM, Lesedi FM, Umhlobo Wenene FM, 5 FM and Good Hope FM – to give away cash prizes to the total value of R7-million.
Camerer says there will be an opportunity to win prizes from 6 July to 28 August.
"Cell C customers will need to listen to their favourite radio station for details on how to enter. Each radio station will give away R1-million in cash prizes to listeners.  Customers will be able to enter the competition throughout the promotion and on 28 August, six listeners (one from each station) will win a cash prize of R250 000.00."
At the end of the two-month promotion period, a final cash prize of R1-million will be up for grabs to one lucky listener who has entered on one of the radio stations during the promotional period.
