Tim Lowry is stepping down as MD of MTN South Africa, but will retain his position of vice-president for South East Africa (SEA).
The position of MD of MTN SA will be taken by Karel Pienaar, effective 1 August 2009. Pienaar is currently the group chief technical & information officer.
Pienaar was one of the founder executives of MTN SA in 1994 and has held various senior executive positions in the group.
Meanwhile, Rob Nisbet will be succeeded as group finance director by Nazir Patel, effective 1 October 2009.
Nisbet joined the MTN Group in 1995 and has been an integral part of its senior management team. After 14 years of service, Rob has decided to pursue other business interests outside the group.
"Rob Nisbet has made a significant contribution to MTN. We are all grateful for having had him as part of the team," says Phuthuma Nhleko, group president and CEO of MTN Group.
Nisbet will continue to be part of the transaction team that will progress the envisaged MTN / Bharti transaction and will remain on the MTN board as an executive director until the end of September 2009.
Patel joined the MTN Group in 2005 as group executive finance. He is a qualified CA with wide international experience in Europe and the Middle
East. He has been responsible for the group financial management and accounting function, has participated in several of the group's mergers and acquisition activities and serves on a number of MTN's subsidiary boards.
MTN has also announced that Debbie Millar has been appointed as group executive: treasury, funding and IR; Carel Gericke becomes the new group executive: corporate tax; and Zolisa Masiza move into the position of group executive: regulatory for the MTN Group and MTN SA.
