Dimension Data Middle East & Africa has formed a strategic partnership with Tanzania-based WiA Group, which has acquired a 49% shareholding in Dimension Data Tanzania for an undisclosed sum.
Professor Peter Msolla, Tanzania’s Minister of Communications, Science & Technology, comments: “The partnership of these two significant ICT players and the services they will deliver to the people of Tanzania, is twofold: the development of the ICT industry; and the growth of industries and institutions that adopt modern technologies to increase their economic productivity and efficiency."
WiA Group is the majority shareholder in WiA, a leading Tanzanian Internet service provider (ISP) that provides a range of connectivity services including wireless broadband, webhosting, VoIP, e-business and e-mail services to the Tanzanian market, specifically in Dar es Salaam.
“The Dimension Data WiA Group partnership will ensure that national and international businesses, as well as government and public sector agencies, have access to and benefit from an integrated range of modern, reliable and affordable ICT solutions and services," says Neda Smith, GM of Dimension Data Tanzania.
“ICTs are a critical enabler in socio-economic development. This partnership reflects the company’s commitment to economic empowerment through local ownership, and recognition of the benefits for all parties when companies combine their strengths to provide solutions and services to organisations."
Eric Mwenda, CEO of WiA Group, adds: “In order to deliver on the ever increasing demand for ICTs in the Tanzanian market, companies must scale on both capacity and capability.
"The partnership with Dimension Data gives us access to an enormous pool of IT skills and talent, ICT worldwide best practices, and the opportunity to further invest in our technological capabilities. This will ensure we implement the latest technology so that Tanzania becomes an active participant in the information economy."
