Despite playing its channel cards closer to its chest than normal, unimpeachable sources have confirmed that Dell has appointed its third distributor in South Africa.
From 1 August, Tarsus Technologies was given access to the full consumer and enterprise range of Dell products, which includes storage and servers.
Tarsus now joins Drive Control (DCC) and Pinnacle Micro as Dell's official distributors in the region.
While Pinnacle only has access to consumer products, it has also been reliably learnt that DCC – which had restricted access to certain products – will now distribute the complete Dell range.
The source revealed that Tarsus will have an internal launch for Dell on 17 August and that an official launch to press and partners will be on 27 August. Support personnel have already been trained up on the Dell range and Tarsus has also placed its first orders.
When initially approached about the appointment of Tarsus more than three weeks ago, a Dell spokesperson denied all knowledge. At the time of going to press, confirmation could still not be obtained from Dell.
