Microsoft is making a renewed bid for the burgeoning smartphone market, and is giving its Windows Mobile operating system a facelift.

According to press reports today, the new Windows Mobile 6.5 could be in phones as early as 6 October, in time for the Christmas shopping season.
The new system is said to have been updated to be more in line with Blackberry and iPhone interfaces.
Windows Mobile 6.5 will also feature a new version of Explorer and better touch-screen capabilities. In addition, My Phone will let users synchronise personal content on the Internet.
