It's believed that HP may merge some of its printing division into the PC group as it turns its focus to commercial computing and services.
The Wall Street Journal went public with the reported plan, and so far HP has not commented on it.
The printing division – once HP's powerhouse, contributing about half of its profits – has shrunk to about 20% of its revenue and only one-third of of its profits so far this year.
It's ironic that HP's printing division was used just a few years ago to prop up its ailing PC business. The company has since become the world's leading PC vendor, but printer sales have suffered.
Just yesterday, HP annnounced that its enterprise business now accounts for 47% of its revenue and profits.
It has merged recently-acquird EDS and the TSG operations into HP Enterprise Services.
