The deadline for Nokia’s Calling All Innovators competition – launched in July for developers to create locally relevant, best-of-breed mobile applications – looms. The closing date is 15 November.
“The competition has attracted a good number of entries from both South African and African developers,” says Helen Jarvis, Nokia’s services marketing manager. “With only two weeks left until the competition closes, we really encourage all developers to submit their applications as soon as possible.”
The competition calls for developers to create applications that are relevant to the local market and this includes those developed for Ovi Maps. The overall winner is awarded $85 000 in cash and will see their application featured on Ovi store. A further four winners will each receive $10 000. The developer that submits the most creative Ovi Maps-related application will be entered into a second stage of the contest where they will gain access to the beta environment and the tools to develop their ideas in practice.
The Calling all Innovators competition is open to anyone, including mobile and Web application developers worldwide, to submit their entries. All applications developed for South Africans and running on Series 40 or Series 60 devices will be considered.
The winner will be announced on 10 December.
