SecureData Security, part of JSE-listed SecureData Holdings and the sole sub-Saharan distributor for Websense, has announced that for the seventh year in a row, independent research firm IDC has named Websense the leader in the overall Web security market.

This comprises software, appliance and software-as-a-service (SaaS) Web security to protect against inbound threats and prevent outbound data leaks. Websense captured 26.2% of the 2008 worldwide market revenue for Web security software and experienced 96.3% revenue growth in the SaaS Web security segment.
According to the IDC report the growing use of Web 2.0 tools by enterprises and an increasing number of mobile and remote workers have created both a risk of data leaks and new channels for malware. To balance the business value of Web 2.0 technologies with the security risks, organisations need real-time deep content analysis and classification, as well as data loss prevention technologies.
Websense solutions meets changing and unique customer needs
The IDC report proves once again that Websense meets customer needs even as those needs have changed due to a changing internet environment. As the pioneer in Web security, Websense has continued to maintain its leadership through continued innovation in protecting customers from web-based threats, such as its use of cloud-based technologies for threat detection and real-time content analysis to enable the safe use of Web 2.0 applications. In addition, the integration of its data loss prevention and email security solutions offers multi-layered protection from inbound malware threats and outbound data leaks.
Websense is also extending its leadership and experience in on-premise software to the SaaS and appliance segments of the overall Web security market with its quickly growing Hosted Web Security and Websense V10000 Web Security Gateway appliance offerings. To further meet unique network configurations, Websense Web Security is also available as a hybrid solution.
