In a move that will reshape its offering in the virtualisation spectrum, local distribution house, Workgroup, has announced that it is now an official distributor of the Wyse Technology range of solutions.
This appointment will help Wyse drive incremental business in the South African and African markets and will assist Workgroup in extending its reach into various vertical markets, including government.
“Many organisations view client virtualisation and thin computing as a means to reduce IT expenditure whilst making their businesses more flexible,” says Doug Woolley, MD of Workgroup. “With Wyse Technology’s hardware and software solutions, Workgroup will be able to tap into a growing market need by Government workers to access centrally-hosted applications over network connections.”
Thin computing is a computing architecture that shifts computing from the desktop or client to the host server, which is accessible over a network, advancing access to and the safety of significant business applications, while reducing support and maintenance requirements.
In addition to reduced cost, manageability, reliability and improved security; the energy saving benefits of thin computing are significant. A typical Wyse client uses as little as 1/10th the energy of a PC when in use – making thin computing a valuable tool for organisations in a time when a company’s carbon emissions are being called into question.
“Wyse’s extended presence in South Africa further enables the company’s drive to bring support through distribution, product marketing and sales to the region,” says Woolley. “Workgroup and its channel partners and end users will now have access to solutions that can be innovated and customised to suit local business requirements.”
Products that will be available through Workgroup include:
* The Wyse range of desktop thin clients – from compact, ultra-thin devices through to powerful clients for demanding virtualisation environments, kiosk and digital signage applications.
* Laptop form-factor mobile thin clients for campus and field use.
* Wyse virtualisation software that addresses previous limitations of thin client solutions including: multimedia playback, Adobe Flash support, plug and play peripherals, and bi-directional high quality audio.
* Wyse management software enabling enterprise-wide client management removing the need for desktop support visits.
“Wyse is very pleased to be working with Workgroup” adds Mark Jordan, vice-president: EMEA at Wyse Technology. “Both companies are well recognised in their respective fields with established reputations in servicing resellers and we look forward to combining our strengths to drive business in sub-Saharan Africa.”
