Yesterday (27 January) Oracle announced the completion of its acquisition of Sun Microsystems, committing to open systems and the continued development of Java – as well as to increase investment in Sun's hardware platforms.

At a day-long event, the company attempted to allay customers's fears about the acquisition, with a number of key messages emerging.
There are a commitment to spending more money developing SPARC than Sun does now. It will also increase the money spent on developing Solaris – and, importantly, will grow the investment in developing MySQL.
On the services fron, Oracle intends to double the number of hardware specialists selling and servicing SPARC/Solaris systems than Sun currently has.
