ICASA (Independent Communicatiosn Authority of SA) has accepted the revised interconnect price reductions submitted by the cellular network operators.

The new submissions are to cut the interconnect rate from R1,25 to 89 cents from 1 March.
This is in line with an agreement struck among the operators last year, which also allowed for small cuts in 2011 and 2012. However, that proposal was rejected by ICASA, with the backing of parliament last week.
The new submissions from the cellular operators exclude the phased reductions of the next three years.
ICASA is due to conclude its own study and release recommendations by the end of March regarding the interconnect issue.
